To acknowledge the outstanding quality in the cup, we have chosen to pay 12,13 UDS/KG based on the quality of Bekele Natural. We call it a 'quality bonus' so you know the direct impact your coffee choice has on the farmer. Thank you for being a part of this rewarding journey.

We have laid out all the numbers for you in our Transparency Report

About Bekele

Bekele Kachara runs several small coffee processing sites in the same area. The one we work with is the highest, where they grow and process coffee at 2,350 masl in the Murago area of Sidama.

The fields were planted just four years ago, and the farm consists of seven hectares, with four hectares planted with coffee. Murago is a relatively new area for coffee production. Just five years ago, no one would have considered growing coffee at this altitude. However, due to a combination of climate change and new varieties, a whole new area for coffee production has opened up. The soil in the area is extremely rich, and the plants thrive at this extreme altitude.

Because the air is thin and the temperature cooler at this height, the cherries develop very slowly. This results in a complex coffee with lots of aroma.
