How much is the farmer paid | Takesi Catuai
Do you ever ask your barista how much the farmer gets paid?
Mariana Iturralde
07.05.2024Peter Ebdrup

To acknowledge the outstanding quality in the cup, we have chosen to pay 375% above the market price for Mariana Iturralde's Takesi Catuai. We call it a 'quality bonus' so you know the direct impact your coffee choice has on the farmer. Thank you for being a part of this rewarding journey.

We have laid out all the numbers for you in our Transparency Report

About Takesi
In a small area of the Bolivian Andes, Mariana Iturralde has discovered the perfect spot to grow coffee. In fact, she is the only one that grows coffee around here, and her farm, Finca Takesi, produces some of the finest coffee that we at Coffee Collective have ever tasted.

One of the things that sets Takesi apart from other farms is the exceptional quality of the soil. The farm benefits from a thick layer of humus, which provides the trees with natural nourishment. This, along with the ideal combination of wind, temperature, and elevation, contributes to the high quality of the coffee produced here.

How much is the farmer paid?
Coffee Collective trades directly with producers, ensuring that the payment goes into the right hands. When you purchase a bag of coffee you will know how much the producer is paid.

Transparency in coffee prices
The graph below shows you the difference between the quality bonus and the ICO market price, as well as the Fairtrade price. Neither the market price nor Fairtrade clearly and transparently informs you about how much money actually reaches the farmers.

In contrast, the quality bonus provides you with a market comparison that is transparent.

Coffee Collective price compared to the market price

The orange pillar represents the price that Coffee Collective paid directly to Mariana Iturralde. This is the price we paid above the market price. Therefore, Mariana received $10 per pound for this harvest.
