Bekele Karchara runs several small coffee processing sites in the same area. The one we work with is the highest, where they grow and process coffee at 2,350 masl in the Murago area of Sidama.
Because the air is thin at this altitude and the temperature is cooler, the cherries develop very slowly. This results in a complex coffee with lots of aroma. Everything is produced without electricity or water, and native trees are planted everywhere to interfere as little as possible with nature.
Bekele works with both his own coffees and those of 75 other local farmers. He has been around coffee since childhood, as his parents were coffee farmers in the lowlands.
We work by the values of transparent trade. This helps create a healthy relationship with the cooperative and financial sustainability for them.
We pay a quality bonus to Bekele Karchara that is 156% above market price ($4.75/lb FOB). The quality bonus allows the farmer to continue to produce higher quality coffee.
Depending on your brewing method at home, from Aeropress, to Kalita or French press, we help you getting the best taste out of your coffee.
